Test of instructional ability
The purpose of the test of instructional ability is to examine the effectiveness of your teaching methods and to make sure it is to an exceptable standard. When providing driving lessons to general public a driving instructor need to deliver clear understandable instructions for pupils to respond and learn. Driving instructors also need to recognise driving faults and provide effective remedial advise. This takes a lot of practise along with 100% concentration on the task in hand.
The test of instructional ability last for around an hour. It consists of 2 sections which are referred to a phases. The supervising driving examiner will roleplay a pupil on driving lessons on 2 senarios which will be:

Beginner / Partly trained
-
Trained / Near to driving test standard
The supervising driving examiner will give you the subjects in which they would like you to demonstate your teaching skills. They are looking for a high standard of driving tuition and control of the driving lessons.
You will be guven a grade for each of the 2 phases ranging from 1 - 6, six being the highest. To pass the section you will need to score 4 or above in both phases. You will have 3 attempts at the examination with each attempt you will need to re-book.
Once you have passed the part 3, test of instructional ability you will be given the appropriate paperwork to apply to become an approved driving instructor.
